Kids Art Lab was established @ The Northern Rivers Conservatorium in Lismore in 2005. KAL provides quality art instruction for students ages 3-18. Art theory and practice are both explored, with students gaining wide-ranging artmaking skills. Visual Literacy is developed by constant exposure to both historical and contemporary artists/artworks. Students exhibit their completed works locally and frequently visit galleries.

" Kids Art Lab offers kids' classes for children aged 3-18 through an expansive program that stimulates personal expression and creative development in various visual media. Children can do painting, printmaking, puppet-making and puppetry, sculpture using found objects, set design for live theatre productions, and go on art excursions."

Kids Art Lab aims to provide educational opportunities that have been outlined by the NSW Board of Studies K-10 Curriculum Framework as follows:

enable all students to develop positive self-concepts and their capacity to establish and maintain safe, healthy and rewarding lives
prepare all students for effective and responsible participation in their society, taking account of moral, ethical and spiritual considerations
encourage and enable all students to enjoy learning, and to be self-motivated, reflective, competent learners who will be able to take part in further study, work or training.
promote a fair and just society that values diversity
promote continuity and coherence of learning, and facilitate the transition between primary and secondary schooling.

Recently we have moved to larger premises which will allow us to expand upon our already diverse projects and includes darkroom facilities for printing black and white photographs/photograms.

Primary Students:

Wednesday & Friday    4.00 - 5.30 pm

High School Students

Thursday                     4.00 - 5.30 pm
Saturday                        10.30 am - 12.00 noon

* Bookings for all classes is essential, as all programmes run per semester (in line with the current NSW DET school schedule).

* Private tutoring is also available to HSC Visual Arts Students. Group workshops in specific artmaking process are available for educators/parents/students.

Fri        April 16 Mosaics * (*+$5.00 Material fee)

Classes run daily from 10.00am – 12.00 noon in a fully-equipped artmaking studio conveniently located in the Lismore @ The Northern Rivers Conservatorium.

Tuition : $16.00 per class / $15.00 per class (advanced booking for 4 or more classes) + $5.00 material fee for mosaics.

About the Director of Kids Art Lab

Belinda Madden, BA, Grad. Dip.Ed., MA.

Belinda Madden, teacher and director of Kids Art Lab, applies her broad experience as an artist to direct children in her classes. Belinda is a qualified teacher and has worked in film, fashion and theatre (with a ten-year stint in New York ) and this wealth of experience feeds into the classes. Belinda's priority is to provide kids with an applied understanding of art that will enrich their lives and futures. Kids Art Lab is endorsed by Lismore Regional Gallery.
